About Trento
Trento: Alpine Capital Between the Dolomites and Lake Garda
Trento sits in the Adige Valley of Trentino-Alto Adige, 120 km north of Verona and roughly 60 km south of the Brenner Pass. The city is best known as the site of the Council of Trent (1545–1563), the Catholic Church's response to the Reformation, held across three decades in the Cattedrale di San Vigilio. That history is layered onto a compact medieval centre where 16th-century frescoed palaces — notably Palazzo Pretorio and Casa Cazuffi-Rella on Piazza del Duomo — face a Baroque fountain. The Museo delle Scienze (MUSE), designed by Renzo Piano and opened in 2013, anchors the newer Le Albere quarter south of the historic core.
Where to Stay and Getting Around
Most hotels cluster within walking distance of Piazza del Duomo or along Via Belenzani. The Funivia Trento–Sardagna cable car rises to 630 m and offers fast access to plateau hiking. Rail connections are frequent: Trenitalia runs direct services to Verona (65 min), Bologna (2 hrs), and Munich via Innsbruck. The A22 Brennero motorway passes through the Adige Valley.
