About Pergine Valsugana

Pergine Valsugana

Pergine Valsugana sits at the eastern end of Lake Caldonazzo, roughly 10 km east of Trento in the Valsugana valley of Trentino. The town is anchored by Castel Pergine, a 13th-century fortress perched on a hill above the old centre — one of the best-preserved castles in the region and open to visitors each summer. The surrounding valley connects the Adige basin to the Veneto plain, making Pergine a natural waypoint between the Dolomites and Lake Garda.

Visitors come primarily for outdoor activity and lakeside calm. Lake Caldonazzo is the warmest natural lake in Trentino and draws swimmers and windsurfers from June through August. Trails on Monte Caldonazzo and the broader Lagorai range suit hikers seeking less-trafficked routes than the main Dolomite corridors. In winter, ski areas at Panarotta — about 15 km from town — provide a local alternative to the larger resorts. The town centre retains a compact medieval layout with a main piazza, arcaded streets, and local restaurants serving Trentino staples: canederli, polenta, and cured meats from the valley.

Pergine Valsugana is served by regional trains on the TrentoVenezia line, with connections to Trento in under 20 minutes. The A22 motorway is accessible at Trento Est, approximately 12 km west.
