Meta di Sorrento occupies a narrow coastal shelf on the Sorrento Peninsula in Campania, roughly 4 km north of Sorrento centre and about 50 km south of Naples. The town sits between Sant'Agnello and Piano di Sorrento, rising from a small sandy beach — Spiaggia di Meta — up through a compact historic quarter of limestone streets, baroque churches, and lemon groves. The seafront is sheltered enough for swimming from May through October, making Meta a quieter alternative to the more trafficked Sorrento waterfront.

Visitors are typically a mix of Italian families returning to a long-established summer resort and international travellers who want Peninsula access without Sorrento's peak-season crowds. The Circumvesuviana railway stops at Meta station, placing Pompeii within 25 minutes and Naples Centrale within 55 minutes by direct train. Ferries from the nearby Marina della Lobra at Massa Lubrense, roughly 8 km west, connect to Capri and Positano in under an hour. Day trips to the Amalfi Coast, Herculaneum, and the Greek temples at Paestum are all practical from a Meta base.

Hotels in Meta range from small family-run pensioni on the Via Nuova Lauro to larger 3-star and 4-star properties with sea-view terraces. The local accommodation stock is smaller than Sorrento's, so rooms book out in July and August several weeks in advance.
