About Quart

Quart

Quart sits 5 km east of Aosta in the Valle d'Aosta, Italy's smallest and least-populated region. The medieval Castello di Quart, first documented in the 13th century and one of the largest castle complexes in the western Alps, rises on a rocky spur above the valley floor and defines the skyline. The surrounding terrain combines Roman-era road traces along the Via delle Gallie, local vineyards producing Petite Arvine and Fumin DOC wines, and direct views of the Gran Paradiso massif to the south.

Visitors come for a mix of reasons: proximity to Aosta's Roman amphitheatre and triumphal arch of Augustus (25 BC), access to Gran Paradiso National Park trails, and a quieter base than the regional capital. The S.S. 26 state road and regular bus lines connect Quart to Aosta in under 10 minutes. Courmayeur and the Mont Blanc tunnel are roughly 35 km west via the A5 motorway.

The municipality covers about 35 km² and sits at roughly 560 m elevation in the valley bottom, rising to alpine pastures above 2,000 m. Most accommodation options are small family-run hotels and agriturismi. The nearest large train station is Aosta, served by regional rail from Turin Porta Nuova in approximately 2 hours.
