Termini is Rome's central transport hub and one of its most densely connected neighborhoods. Anchored by Roma Termini Station — the largest railway station in Italy — this district serves as the practical heart of the city, welcoming millions of travelers each year and placing them within easy reach of Rome's most celebrated landmarks.
Roma Termini Station is both a national and regional rail hub, connecting visitors to Florence, Naples, Milan, and beyond via high-speed Frecciarossa trains. Two metro lines (A and B) intersect directly beneath the station, making Termini the only metro interchange point in Rome. From here, the Colosseum is roughly 10 minutes by Metro Line B, while the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain are accessible via Metro Line A. Multiple bus routes also depart from the piazza in front of the station, covering virtually every corner of the city.
Beyond its transport function, the Termini district holds genuine historical interest. The ancient Servian Wall — one of Rome's earliest defensive structures, dating to the 4th century BC — runs directly through the station's lower level and is visible to passengers. The nearby Piazza della Repubblica features the Fountain of the Naiads, a late 19th-century landmark framed by the curved colonnades of the former Baths of Diocletian. The Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, designed by Michelangelo within the ruins of those same baths, stands just steps away and is free to enter.
