About Vignale Monferrato

Vignale Monferrato

Vignale Monferrato sits on a ridge in the Asti province of Piedmont, roughly 60 km east of Turin and 30 km north of Asti. The village of around 900 residents is one of the reference points for Barbera d'Asti and Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese DOC wines. Its most prominent building is Palazzo Callori, a 17th-century noble residence that now houses the Enoteca Regionale del Monferrato — a tasting centre stocking bottles from across the appellation. The hilltop position gives unbroken views over vine rows that gained UNESCO World Heritage status in 2014 as part of the Piedmont Wine Landscapes.

Visitors arrive mainly to taste wine at the enoteca or during the annual Collisioni festival, which draws international music and literary acts to the village each July. Agriturismo properties and small inns dominate the accommodation offer, typically within a short walk of the medieval centre. Casale Monferrato, the nearest large town with a full rail connection, is 12 km north on the SS590.

The closest airports are Turin Caselle (TRN, approx. 75 km) and Genoa Cristoforo Colombo (GOA, approx. 90 km). A car is the practical choice for reaching Vignale Monferrato, as local bus services to the village are limited.
