About Villeneuve

Villeneuve

Villeneuve is a small Alpine municipality in the Aosta Valley, northwestern Italy, set along the Dora Baltea river at roughly 620 metres above sea level. The village sits approximately 8 km west of Aosta city and is flanked by the Gran Paradiso massif to the south and the Graian Alps to the west. The medieval tower of Saint-Michel, visible from the valley road, marks the historic core. The surrounding countryside connects directly to trails leading into the Gran Paradiso National Park, Italy's oldest national park, established in 1922.

Visitors come primarily for outdoor activity: summer hiking on marked Alta Via routes, mountain biking along the valley floor, and winter access to the Pila ski area, reachable via cable car from Aosta. The nearby Aymavilles Castle, a 14th-century fortified residence less than 4 km away, draws day visitors with an interest in Valdostan medieval architecture. Local restaurants serve regional specialties including fontina cheese fonduta and carbonade, a slow-cooked beef dish traditional to the valley.

Villeneuve is served by the Aosta Valley motorway (A5) and has a regional train stop on the TurinAosta line, placing it roughly 110 km from Turin by rail. The village has limited accommodation options, making early booking advisable during the July–August hiking season and the December–March ski period.
