Ryotei Matsubaya

Folded into the Kankaiji hot spring quarter above Beppu Bay, Ryotei Matsubaya channels the ryotei tradition through tatami rooms, kaiseki-style meal service, and direct access to natural onsen drawn from the Beppu geothermal field — one of Japan's highest-volume spring sources.

Three bath options serve guests: an indoor hot spring bath, an open-air rotenburo, and a shared public bath, each fed by the property's own piped spring water. Room service delivers meals in-room, and special diet requests are accepted in advance — practical for guests navigating Buddhist or allergen-restricted menus.

Kankaiji sits on the hillside above central Beppu, roughly fifteen minutes by foot from the Kannawa steam vents district. The Beppu Ropeway station is close for views across the Kunisaki Peninsula on clear mornings.
