Ryokan Matsukaze

Beyond the tourist cluster around Matsumoto Castle, Ryokan Matsukaze occupies a quiet residential address in the Nakajo district, where the pace drops noticeably within a short walk of the old town fringe.

Rooms feature traditional tatami flooring and sitting areas; bathrooms are shared in classic ryokan fashion. A hot tub adds a practical draw for guests arriving after long Alpine hiking days — the Japanese Alps trailheads at Kamikochi are roughly 90 minutes by bus. Bicycles are available to rent on-site, making the flat grid between the castle and Nawate Street navigable without taxis.

Check-in opens at 15:00; check-out closes at 10:00. Parking is provided, useful for travellers arriving via the Nagano Expressway rather than rail.
