Visitors prioritising spa resorts typically head 2–3 km north toward the Mekong riverbank, where larger properties overlook Pak Ou Caves boat-departure points.

Getting Around

Tuk-tuks cover most in-town journeys for a flat negotiated fare. Bicycle hire along Sisavangvong Road costs roughly 20,000–30,000 kip per day and suits the flat Old Town grid well. The slow boat from Huay Xai on the Thai border takes two days and docks at the northern landing — a popular arrival for travellers coming overland.
