Plazoleta Nazarenas 337
About Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel, Cusco
The 16th-century Augustinian monastery on Plazoleta Nazarenas 337, Monasterio retains its original stone cloisters, gilded Baroque chapel, and a cedar-ceiling courtyard that served novice monks for two centuries before conversion.
Rooms are arranged around three internal courtyards; the oldest wing predates the 1650 Cusco earthquake and its walls run nearly a metre thick. An enriched-oxygen system is available in rooms to ease altitude adjustment at 3,400 metres — a practical detail rarely offered elsewhere in the city.
The plazoleta sits one block from the main Plaza de Armas, close enough for the cathedral's bells to reach the courtyard each morning. The San Blas artisan quarter is a seven-minute walk uphill.
