Quinta Jardins do Lago

Beyond the hotel zone that lines Funchal's seafront, Quinta Jardins do Lago occupies a 19th-century manor on Rua Dr. João Lemos Gomes in the São Martinho parish — a ten-minute drive west of the old town, suited to travellers who want garden seclusion over central noise.

The quinta's botanical grounds predate the building's conversion to a five-star property; century-old camellias and a resident lake give the estate its name and set it apart from Funchal's newer resort towers. Rooms in the original manor house retain period ceilings and shuttered windows not found in the modern wing.

The cable car linking Funchal to Monte village is reachable in under fifteen minutes by car, and the Lido pool complex sits a short walk downhill along the coastal promenade.
