Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

Sixteen suites spread across two lodge camps on a 2,500-hectare fynbos reserve above Walker Bay, Grootbos sits roughly 170km southeast of Cape Town near the whale-watching coast of Hermanus. Forest Lodge occupies milkwood forest; Garden Lodge opens onto limestone fynbos slopes — each camp runs separately with its own pool and dining room.

The reserve holds over 750 plant species, and guided botanicals walks with resident naturalists run daily. The Green Futures horticultural training program operates on-site, giving the property measurable conservation context beyond typical safari rhetoric.

Walker Bay's southern right whale season runs July through November, with shore-based sightings accessible within 20 minutes. The Stanford village market and Gansbaai's shark-dive operators both sit under 15km from the reserve gates.
