About Ba Kan Tiang

Ba Kan Tiang is a small bay settlement on the southwest coast of Koh Lanta Yai, the largest island in Krabi Province, southern Thailand. The bay sits roughly 30 km south of Lanta's main ferry pier at Ban Sala Dan, placing it at the quieter, less-developed end of the island. A long arc of sand backed by casuarina trees defines the shoreline, and the sea here stays relatively calm from November through April — the dry season that draws most visitors. The pace is unhurried; accommodation runs from simple bungalows to mid-range resorts, and the road through the village connects to a handful of seafood restaurants and dive operators.

Travellers come to Ba Kan Tiang primarily for the beach itself and for access to Mu Ko Lanta National Park, whose headquarters sit just a few kilometres further south. Snorkelling and diving trips depart regularly for nearby reefs, including sites around Koh Rok — roughly 45 km offshore — rated among the clearest waters in the Andaman Sea. The bay also attracts those seeking distance from the busier beaches of Klong Dao and Long Beach to the north.

The May–October monsoon brings rough surf and strong winds; many businesses close during this period. Koh Lanta is reached by ferry from Krabi Town (approximately 2 hours) or by road via two vehicle ferries crossing the straits between the mainland and the island.
