Hotel Schloss Mönchstein

Carved into the wooded crown of Mönchsberg rock, Schloss Mönchstein occupies a 16th-century castle that rises 60 metres above Salzburg's Old Town rooftops. The private funicular from the cliff base reaches the entrance in under two minutes.

Twelve individually furnished rooms and suites retain the original vaulted stonework while adding heated bathroom floors and contemporary lighting. The castle restaurant holds a panoramic terrace facing the Hohensalzburg Fortress directly across the valley — one of the few dining positions in the city where both the fortress and the Dom dome appear in a single sightline.
