About Sun Peaks

Sun Peaks: British Columbia's Alpine Resort Village

Sun Peaks sits 53 km northeast of Kamloops in the Shuswap Highlands of British Columbia, at an elevation of 1,255 m in the village core. The resort village is purpose-built around Sun Peaks Resort, Canada's second-largest ski area by acreage, with 4,270 acres of terrain spread across three mountains — Tod Mountain, Morrisey, and Sundance. The ski season typically runs December through April, with 882 cm of average annual snowfall. Summer draws mountain bikers and hikers to 80+ km of lift-accessed trails.

Where to Stay in Sun Peaks

Accommodation clusters tightly around the village centre, within walking distance of ski lifts and the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel. Slope-side condos, inn-style lodges, and a handful of chalets make up most of the roughly 30–40 bookable properties. Most hotels include ski-in/ski-out access or are under 200 m from the nearest lift terminal.

Practical Tips

  • Getting there: Sun Peaks Express shuttle connects Kamloops Airport (YKA) to the village; drive time is approximately 45 minutes via Highway 5 and Sun Peaks Road.
  • Season timing: Peak ski season is January–March; summer hiking peaks July–August with cooler alpine temperatures averaging 22 °C.
  • Currency: Canadian dollars (CAD); most properties quote rates in CAD.
  • Altitude note: Pack layers — village temperatures drop sharply after sunset year-round.
