About Torres del Paine
Torres del Paine: Granite Towers and Patagonian Wilderness
Torres del Paine National Park, established in 1959 in Chile's Magallanes Region, draws roughly 250,000 visitors annually to its granite peaks, glaciers, and turquoise lakes. The three namesake towers — Paine Grande, Paine Chico, and Torre Central — rise to approximately 2,850 metres above the Patagonian steppe. The park lies about 112 km north of Puerto Natales, the nearest town and primary supply hub for trekkers arriving by road from Punta Arenas (270 km south).
Where to Stay
Accommodation ranges from park-edge lodges such as EcoCamp Patagonia and explora Patagonia to budget refugios inside the park operated under Conaf-licensed concessions. Puerto Natales anchors the widest selection of hotels, hostels, and guesthouses at lower price points. The high season runs November through March; park-interior berths fill months in advance, so early booking is essential.
Practical Tips
- Season: November–March offers the longest daylight; April brings autumn colour with fewer crowds.
- Access: Regular buses connect Puerto Natales to the Laguna Amarga park entrance in approximately 1.5 hours.
- Gear: Pack waterproofs and wind layers — weather shifts within the hour at any time of year.
- Entry fee: Foreign visitors pay approximately USD 21–35 depending on season, collected at the park gate.
