Elsewhere Hotel The former residence of the draft bank

Set inside a restored Qing-dynasty draft bank compound on Leijia Street, Elsewhere Hotel occupies one of Pingyao's few remaining merchant courtyard complexes — the original timber lattice screens and grey-brick vaulted ceilings survive throughout the common areas.

Rooms are arranged around a series of connected courtyards, each quieter than the last, shielding guests from the foot traffic of the UNESCO old town lanes outside. Traditional kang-style platform beds and paper-cut window panels reference the building's banking-era origins.

Pingyao's famous Rishengchang Exchange — considered China's first draft bank — stands a short walk east, giving the hotel's own banking heritage rare historical context. The ancient city walls are reachable on foot within minutes.
