Past the Ming-dynasty merchant gates of Pingyao's East Street, Grand Theater Guild Hall East Garden occupies a courtyard compound inside the UNESCO-listed ancient city walls, where carved timber eaves and grey-brick facades have remained largely unchanged since the Qing era.
