Lined along Utila's quieter eastern shore, Papaya Republic sits on one of the Bay Islands' most affordable dive destinations in the Caribbean — an island where the reef begins just metres from the dock and padi certification courses draw travellers from across Central America.

The property's no-frills approach fits Utila's character: a small island where unpaved paths link guesthouses, dive shops, and open-air bars along the water. Guests tend to spend daylight hours below the surface and evenings at the handful of seafood shacks clustered near the municipal pier.

Utila reaches by a 75-minute ferry from La Ceiba on the Honduran mainland, running twice daily. The island has no ATMs accepting foreign cards reliably, so arriving with cash in lempiras is advised.
