About Bordighera
Bordighera
Bordighera sits on the Ligurian coast 6 km west of Ventimiglia, at the far western edge of the Italian Riviera. Claude Monet spent three months here in 1884, producing over 40 paintings of the palm-lined seafront. Those same palms trace back to a papal privilege granted in the 16th century, when the town earned the right to supply fronds to the Vatican for Palm Sunday — a distinction unique in Italy.
The town divides into two distinct zones. The Alta Via, the medieval hilltop quarter, has narrow stone lanes, sea-facing terraces, and a 12th-century church. Below it, the modern resort strip runs along the seafront from Capo Sant'Ampelio, where a small headland shelters a rocky beach, westward to the sandy Spiaggia delle Uova. Visitors are typically Italian families in July and August, northern European retirees seeking the mild winter climate, and travellers using the town as a base for day trips into France — Menton is 12 km west and Monaco is 25 km.
Bordighera station sits on the Genoa–Ventimiglia rail line; regional trains reach Nice in roughly 45 minutes and Genoa in about two hours. The A10 motorway exit is 2 km from the seafront.
