Corte San Pietro

Across the ravine from Matera's Sasso Caveoso district, Corte San Pietro occupies a cluster of cave dwellings carved directly into the tufa hillside, with rooms that predate the hotel by several centuries. The property sits just below the ridge path linking the two Sassi, placing the rupestrian churches of Santa Maria de Idris and San Pietro Caveoso within a five-minute walk.

Rooms retain exposed tufa walls and barrel-vaulted ceilings; some descend two levels into the rock where temperatures stay cool through summer. Breakfast is served in a stone courtyard facing the gorge.

Matera's old town is a UNESCO site since 1993 and the city held European Capital of Culture status in 2019. The hotel's address on Via Buozzi sits outside the main tourist flow, giving guests a quieter approach to the Sassi without losing walking access to either ridge.
