About Moasca
Moasca
Moasca is a small comune in the Asti province of Piedmont, northern Italy, set among the rolling Monferrato hills at roughly 300 metres elevation. The village sits within the Nizza Monferrato DOC wine zone, surrounded by Barbera d'Asti and Moscato d'Asti vineyards that have shaped the local economy for centuries. The historic centre clusters around a medieval parish church, with views across vine-covered slopes toward the Apennines to the south.
Visitors come primarily for agritourism and wine tourism. The Strada del Vino Nizza passes nearby, linking Moasca to cellar-door producers in Canelli — about 8 kilometres southwest — and to the town of Asti, roughly 25 kilometres north. Canelli's underground wine cathedrals, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014 as part of the Piedmont Wine Landscapes, are the nearest major draw. Walkers use the network of ridgeline trails connecting Monferrato villages between harvests in September and October.
Moasca has fewer than 400 residents. Accommodation options are limited and mostly agriturismo-style properties rather than conventional hotels. The nearest rail connection is Canelli station on the Asti–Acqui Terme line.
