Olivarella is a small town in the Metropolitan City of Messina, northeastern Sicily, positioned along the Tyrrhenian coastal plain roughly 30 kilometres west of Messina city. The area sits at the edge of the Valle del Mela industrial corridor, yet retains the agricultural character typical of interior Sicilian settlements — citrus groves, olive cultivation, and quiet residential streets define the local texture far more than any tourist infrastructure.

Visitors passing through Olivarella are typically en route between Messina and Palermo on the A20 motorway, or using the town as a low-cost base to reach Milazzo (around 15 kilometres northwest), the main departure point for ferries to the Aeolian Islands. The Aeolians — Lipari, Stromboli, Vulcano — draw considerable summer traffic, and accommodation in the Milazzo–Olivarella strip offers quieter, more affordable alternatives to island-side lodging. Mount Etna's northern slopes are accessible within roughly 60 kilometres to the south.

The town is served by Olivarella railway station on the Palermo–Messina main line, placing travellers within about 35 minutes of Messina centrale by regional train. Local commerce centres on the SS113 state road, which connects coastal communities across the province.
