About San Vito Lo Capo
San Vito Lo Capo
San Vito Lo Capo sits at the northwestern tip of Sicily, roughly 40 km north of Trapani, where a 1 km arc of white quartz sand meets clear turquoise water. The beach consistently ranks among Italy's finest, flanked on the east by the 532-metre limestone ridge of Monte Monaco. The town itself is compact — a grid of low whitewashed buildings around the 16th-century Sanctuary of San Vito, which doubles as the visual anchor of the seafront promenade.
Most visitors arrive between June and September for the beach season. A significant draw is the Cous Cous Fest, held every late September since 1998: an international cooking competition that reflects the Arab-Norman culinary heritage of this corner of Sicily. The surrounding Zingaro Nature Reserve, about 12 km south along the coast road, adds hiking and snorkelling to the standard beach holiday. Divers also target the underwater caves near Capo San Vito itself.
The town has no train station; the nearest rail connection is Trapani, served by regular buses taking around 50 minutes. Most accommodation concentrates within 500 metres of the beach, ranging from small family-run hotels to self-catering apartments.
