About Santu Diadòru/San Teodoro
San Teodoro: Small Coastal Town in Gallura
San Teodoro is a small coastal town in the Gallura region of northeastern Sardinia, positioned between Olbia and the Costa Smeralda. The town is anchored by La Cinta, a 3 km sand barrier that separates the Tyrrhenian Sea from the shallow Lagunetta di San Teodoro — a protected wetland used by pink flamingos from late summer onward. A few kilometres south, Cala Brandinchi is a sheltered cove with pale sand and water that shifts from jade to deep blue, earning it the informal label of Sardinia's Caribbean corner. Tavolara Island, a dramatic limestone mass rising 565 m above sea level, sits roughly 4 km offshore and defines the horizon east of the beach.
Visitors arrive mainly from late May through September, drawn by the beach corridor and the low-rise resort infrastructure between the seafront and the old village centre on Via Generale Nino Mameli. The town centre holds a small concentration of restaurants focused on bottarga, fregola, and grilled sea bream sourced from local boats. Hotels range from 3-star properties within walking distance of La Cinta to agriturismo options on the Gallura plateau a few kilometres inland.
Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) is approximately 25 km north via the SS125 road. Regular ferry connections from Olbia link the area to Civitavecchia, Genoa, and Livorno, making San Teodoro accessible without a flight. The town has no rail service; a rental car or scooter is practical for reaching the more isolated coves south toward Capo Coda Cavallo.
