About Porto Cervo
Porto Cervo
Porto Cervo anchors the Costa Smeralda on Sardinia's northeastern coast — a purpose-built resort conceived by Aga Khan IV in 1962 and developed into one of Europe's most exclusive summer destinations. The town sits roughly 30 km north of Olbia and faces a sheltered natural harbour that accommodates some of the largest private yachts in the Mediterranean. Its whitewashed architecture, designed to evoke a traditional Sardinian village, clusters around the Piazzetta, the social hub where designer boutiques and open-air restaurants line stone-paved lanes.
Visitors arrive primarily between June and September, drawn by the Liscia di Vacca and Romazzino beaches, the Pevero Golf Club — an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Sr. course cut into granite hillside — and the annual Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup regatta held each September. The town's Stella Maris church, completed in 1968, houses a painting attributed to El Greco. Outside the peak summer window, Porto Cervo operates at a fraction of its July–August capacity.
Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) is the main gateway, roughly 30 km south, with direct connections from major European cities during the summer schedule. Most hotels and villa rentals in the area require minimum stays of one week in high season.
