About Poltu Quatu
Poltu Quatu
Poltu Quatu sits on the northeastern coast of Sardinia, roughly 10 km southwest of Porto Cervo along the Costa Smeralda. The name means "hidden port" in Gallurese — an apt description for a sheltered inlet carved into granite headlands, with a private marina holding around 300 berths. The village was developed in the 1970s as a low-profile counterpart to the flashier resorts nearby, keeping building heights low and stone-clad facades in line with the surrounding scrubland. The result is a compact settlement where hotels, restaurants, and boutiques front directly onto the water.
Visitors arrive primarily for sailing and motor-yacht charters operating out of the marina, and for access to the clear waters of the Golfo di Cugnana. Several beaches — including Piccolo Pevero — are reachable within a 5 km drive. The area draws an affluent European clientele from June through September, with peak weeks in July and August when berth space fills quickly. Outside those months, most facilities close and the village returns to near-silence.
The nearest commercial airport is Olbia Costa Smeralda (OLB), approximately 25 km to the south. Transfers by road take around 30 minutes. Accommodation options in and around Poltu Quatu range from marina-facing rooms to villa rentals in the surrounding hills.
