Plan your stay in Cannigione, Sardinia — a sailing village on the Arzachena gulf with direct access to La Maddalena Archipelago and nearby beaches.
Cannigione is a small coastal village on the northeastern tip of Sardinia, sitting along the Arzachena gulf roughly 10 km from Arzachena town and 30 km south of Santa Teresa Gallura. The village grew from a fishing hamlet into a sailing hub during the 1970s, when the Costa Smeralda development brought international attention to the surrounding coastline. Today the port remains the focal point — ferries and private boats depart here for the La Maddalena Archipelago, a protected national park of granite islands and clear water lying just a few nautical miles offshore.
Most visitors arrive between June and September, drawn by the sheltered bay, the beach at Cannigione itself, and easy access to quieter coves along the Arzachena coast. Sailors stop here to provision and anchor before crossing to La Maddalena or Caprera. The village has a compact centro with restaurants serving fresh catch, a weekly market, and a handful of family-run hotels and apartments — the scale stays small compared to Porto Cervo, 15 km to the south.
Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport is the main entry point, approximately 35 km by road. Car hire is practical for reaching beaches outside the village. The marina offers berths for visiting yachts, and boat-tour operators run daily excursions to the archipelago from the pier.
