About Turin

The most practical bases in Turin are Centro Storico around Piazza Castello, within walking distance of the Egyptian Museum and Mole Antonelliana; Quadrilatero Romano for aperitivo bars and trattorias; and San Salvario for a younger, livelier atmosphere south of the centre. Most visitors stay two to three nights. Turin Caselle Airport is 15 km north, roughly 40 minutes by train.

Centro Storico anchors the city around Piazza Castello and the Palazzo Reale. Quadrilatero Romano, the old Roman grid north of Via Garibaldi, is the neighbourhood for aperitivo culture: narrow streets lined with vermouth bars and wine cellars active from early evening. San Salvario, south of the centre near Porta Nuova station, is more affordable and draws a younger crowd to its cafés and street food stalls.

Getting Around

Porta Nuova is Turin's main rail hub, with direct trains to Milan in 45 minutes and to Paris via the Fréjus tunnel in under four hours. Two metro lines link the southern suburbs to Piazza XVIII Dicembre. Walking covers most of the historic centre; taxis handle the remaining gaps.
