Hirayukan

Between the Norikura and Yakedake volcanic peaks, Hirayukan occupies the Hirayu hot spring village at the gateway to Okuhida Onsenkyo — one of Chubu's densest concentrations of geothermal springs, fed by waters that emerge at over 90°C before cooling to bathing temperature.

The ryokan runs both indoor and open-air baths drawing directly from the Hirayu source, alongside a public bath for communal soaking. Family rooms and a kid-friendly buffet make it one of the few five-star ryokans in the Okuhida corridor that actively accommodates multi-generation groups, with an indoor play area and outdoor equipment on site.

Hirayu sits roughly 90 minutes by bus from Takayama's historic Sanmachi district, and serves as a staging point for Norikura Skyline drives in summer. Late-autumn guests arrive for the maple foliage that lines the Hirayu valley road.
