About El Nido
El Nido: Limestone Karsts and Island-Hopping in Northern Palawan
El Nido sits at the northern tip of Palawan island, roughly 240 km north of Puerto Princesa. The municipality is anchored in El Nido town proper — a strip of beachfront shops, dive operators, and guesthouses — while its real draw extends across 45 islands and islets in the Bacuit Archipelago. The karst formations here rise directly from the sea, enclosing lagoons such as the Big Lagoon and Small Lagoon inside Miniloc Island. Tour operators run four standard island-hopping routes (Tours A–D) that cover Snake Island, Shimizu Island, and the Cathedral Cave sea passage.
Where to Stay
Accommodation clusters in three areas. El Nido town offers the widest range of budget guesthouses and mid-range hotels with direct beach access. Corong-Corong, 2 km south of town, has quieter resorts and fewer day-trippers. Nacpan Beach, 17 km north via a paved road, suits travelers wanting isolation; a handful of small resorts operate there year-round.
Practical Tips
- Getting there: Lio Airport (ENI), 10 km from town, receives direct flights from Manila (roughly 75 minutes). Alternatively, vans run from Puerto Princesa in about 5–6 hours.
- Best season: Mid-November to mid-May brings calm seas; June–October brings southwest monsoon swells that cancel many boat tours.
- Environmental fee: All visitors pay a Municipal Tourism Fee (₱200) and an Island Hopping Permit (₱400) before boarding boats.
