Huta Village

The timber-framed guesthouse on Piatra 36 in Săpânța village, Huta Village places guests within walking distance of the Merry Cemetery — Romania's hand-painted graveyard whose carved oak crosses draw researchers and photographers from across Europe.

Rooms follow the Maramureș vernacular tradition: heavy wood joinery, local weave textiles, and low eaves that keep interiors cool through summer. The surrounding Cosău valley offers unmarked hiking trails through hay meadows still worked by hand.

Săpânța sits near the Ukrainian border in northern Maramureș, roughly 15km from Sighetu Marmației, the region's main town with rail connections south. The area's intact pre-industrial rural landscape is among the most documented in ethnographic literature on Eastern Europe.
