Bled sits at 501 metres above sea level in northwestern Slovenia, 55 km from Ljubljana along the E61 motorway. The town wraps around Lake Bled, a 2.12 km² glacial lake whose sole island holds the Church of the Assumption, rebuilt in its current Baroque form in 1698.
