About Cadaqués

Cadaqués: Whitewashed Village on the Cap de Creus Peninsula

Cadaqués sits on the northeastern tip of Catalonia's Costa Brava, tucked behind the Cap de Creus massif — Spain's easternmost point. The single road in from Roses climbs 14 km of switchbacks, a geographic barrier that has kept the village largely intact since medieval times. White cubic houses line the waterfront around Platja Gran, and the 16th-century Church of Santa Maria rises above the rooftops on the hill. Salvador Dalí spent summers here from childhood and maintained a home in neighboring Port Lligat, 1.5 km north — the Casa-Museu Dalí there draws visitors year-round.

Where to Stay

Hotels and guesthouses concentrate along the Passeig del Mar promenade and in the old town lanes between Carrer Unió and the church. Small boutique properties dominate; large chain hotels are absent. Port Lligat offers quieter options a short walk from the Dalí house. High season runs July–August when the village fills with French and Spanish visitors.

Practical Tips

  • Getting there: No rail link; buses from Figueres (40 km) run daily, or drive the AP-7 motorway to Roses then the mountain road.
  • Parking: Limited inside the village — use the paid lot at the entrance and walk down.
  • Dalí house: Book the Casa-Museu Dalí tickets online weeks in advance; daily visitor numbers are capped.
  • Best months: May–June and September offer warm weather without August crowds.
