About Combarro
Combarro: Stone Granaries on the Ría de Pontevedra
Combarro is a preserved fishing village on the southern shore of the Ría de Pontevedra, in Galicia, northwest Spain. The village holds one of the highest concentrations of hórreos — traditional raised stone granaries — in the country, with dozens lining the waterfront promenade. Most date from the 17th and 18th centuries. The old quarter was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1972, protecting its granite lanes, cruceiros (stone crosses), and seafront pazos from redevelopment.
Where to Stay and Getting Around
Combarro sits 8 km west of Pontevedra city, reachable by local bus in under 20 minutes. Visitors base themselves here to explore the Rías Baixas coastline, the Islas Cíes (accessible by ferry from Vigo, 30 km south), and the Camino Portugués coastal route, which passes through the area. The village itself is compact and walkable in under an hour.
