About Jávea
Jávea: Three Distinct Zones on the Costa Blanca
Jávea (Xàbia in Valencian) occupies a sheltered bay between Cap de Sant Antoni and Cap de la Nau on Spain's Costa Blanca, roughly 90 km north of Alicante in Alicante Province. The town divides into three recognisable areas: the historic old town built around the 16th-century fortress church of San Bartolomé de Jávea, the working port district with its daily fish market and departure point for seasonal Ibiza ferries, and the Arenal — a curved sandy bay lined with hotels and pavement cafés. Cap de la Nau, 8 km southeast of the Arenal, marks the easternmost projection of the Iberian Peninsula.
Where to Stay in Jávea
Hotels and apartments cluster along the Arenal seafront and the port road, with a smaller number of rural houses in the old town streets near Plaça de la Església. The Arenal suits beach-centred stays; the port area places guests within ten minutes' walk of the fish auction and waterfront bars. July and August bring high occupancy as northern European visitors — predominantly British, German, and Dutch — account for a large share of overnight stays.
Practical Tips
- Getting there: Alicante Airport (ALC) is 100 km south; Valencia Airport (VLC) is 120 km north. Car hire is the most practical option for reaching the rocky coves.
- Signature coves: Cala Granadella and Portitxol both require a short drive from the Arenal and have no large hotel development.
- Shoulder season: April to June and late September offer calm seas, temperatures around 20–25 °C, and lower room rates than peak summer.
