About La Mamola

La Mamola

La Mamola is a small fishing village on the Costa Tropical, in Granada province, Andalusia. It sits between Motril and Almuñécar along the N-340 coastal road, roughly 70 km southeast of Granada city. The village faces the Mediterranean at the foot of the Sierra Nevada foothills, where the mountains drop sharply to the sea — a geography that shelters the coast from Atlantic winds and keeps winters mild.

Most visitors come for the calm pebble-and-sand beach, the low-key promenade, and the seafood restaurants serving fresh sardines and anchovies landed by the local fleet. The area draws Spanish families who prefer quiet coves over the crowded resorts of Nerja or Torremolinos, as well as cyclists touring the coastal route between Málaga and Almería. Snorkelling and kayaking are common in summer along this stretch of clear water.

Accommodation in La Mamola is limited — a handful of small hotels and rural guesthouses rather than large resort chains. The nearest airport is Málaga AGP, approximately 115 km west, with Granada Airport (GRX) around 80 km inland. The village has no train station; car or bus from Motril is the practical access route.
