Salamanca, east of the Castellana boulevard, suits travellers who prioritise designer boutiques and quieter streets. Malasaña, northwest of Gran Vía, draws younger visitors to its vintage shops and late-night venues. Lavapiés, south of Centro, offers the highest density of affordable guesthouses and some of the city's most diverse street-food options.

Getting Around

Madrid's Metro runs 13 lines covering 294 km of track — one of Europe's largest networks. A ten-trip Metrobús card covers metro and urban buses. The Cercanías commuter rail links Atocha and Chamartín stations for day trips to Toledo (33 minutes) and Segovia (28 minutes by high-speed AVE from Chamartín).
