About Sotogrande
Sotogrande: Andalusia's Polo and Golf Enclave
Sotogrande sits on the Costa del Sol's southern tip, within the municipality of San Roque, Cádiz province, roughly 20 km north of Gibraltar. Developed from 1962 onward, it ranks among Spain's largest privately managed residential resorts. The Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, inaugurated in 1964 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., anchors the sporting reputation here, alongside Valderrama, host of the 1997 Ryder Cup. Five additional courses lie within a short drive. Each August, the Santa María Polo Club draws international teams for the high-goal Torneo Internacional de Polo, one of Europe's leading polo competitions.
Where to Stay
Accommodation clusters around Puerto Sotogrande, the marina district lined with restaurants and mooring berths, and along the Paseo del Parque residential zone. Properties range from golf-resort hotels with direct fairway access to villa-style apartments rented by the week. The marina area keeps walking distances short for guests without a car.
