Kumarana

An intimate beachfront guesthouse on the quieter northern edge of Bentota, Kumarana sits within the Yalegama stretch where the beach thins out and fishing activity replaces the sunbed rows found closer to town. Direct sand access requires no road crossing.

Rooms are simply fitted — fan-cooled with private bathrooms, mosquito nets, clothes racks, and writing desks — suited to travellers who prefer functional over curated. Terraces face the Indian Ocean rather than an interior garden, which at this latitude means direct southwest breeze through most of the year.

Bentota's railway station, with direct trains to Colombo Fort in under two hours, sits roughly two kilometres south. The Bentota River estuary and its boat safaris into the mangrove lagoon are the main non-beach activity within easy reach.
