About Mui Ne

Mui Ne: Red Dunes, Fishing Villages, and Kite-Surfing Winds

Mui Ne is a coastal town in Bình Thuận Province, roughly 200 km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City along Highway 1. The peninsula is best known for two contrasting landscapes: the Red Sand Dunes rising directly behind the shoreline and the White Sand Dunes (Bàu Trắng) 18 km further north. Strong, consistent winds between November and April have made Mui Ne one of Southeast Asia's leading kite-surfing destinations, drawing competitors and learners to the long, open beach each season.

Where to Stay

Hotels and resorts line Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Street, the main coastal road that stretches roughly 10 km from the fishing village at the eastern tip to the newer resort zone near Hàm Tiến. Budget guesthouses cluster near the Fairy Stream (Suối Tiên), a shallow red-and-white canyon walkable in sandals. Mid-range and full-service resorts occupy the central beachfront strip, where the shore faces southwest for afternoon sun.

Practical Tips

  • Getting there: Sleeper buses from Ho Chi Minh City take 4–5 hours; the nearest train station is Phan Thiết, 22 km west.
  • Best season: November to April brings dry weather and peak kite-surfing winds; May to October is wetter with calmer seas.
  • Local food: The fishing harbor at the eastern village supplies fresh seafood; the area is also known for prahok-style fermented fish sauce produced locally.
  • Currency: Vietnamese Đồng (VND); ATMs are available along Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Street.
