Medellín sits in the Andes at 1,495 metres above sea level, which gives it a near-constant spring climate averaging 22 °C year-round — a fact that earned it the nickname La Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera. The city of 2.5 million anchors the Aburrá Valley in Antioquia department, roughly 250 km northwest of Bogotá by air.
