Hotels in Beaune

Beaune sits at the heart of Burgundy's Côte d'Or, roughly 45 km south of Dijon along the A31 motorway. The medieval ramparts and the Hôtel-Dieu — a 15th-century hospital founded in 1443 by Chancellor Nicolas Rolin — define the old town's skyline. The Hôtel-Dieu's polychrome glazed-tile roof is one of the most photographed facades in France. The surrounding vineyards, classified under Burgundy's appellation system, produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines sold at the Hospices de Beaune auction each November — the world's oldest charity wine sale, dating to 1859.

Visitors arrive primarily for wine tourism. The Route des Grands Crus begins just north of Beaune and passes premier and grand cru villages including Pommard, Volnay, and Meursault within a 10 km radius. The town also draws history enthusiasts to its Musée du Vin de Bourgogne, housed in the former palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. Cycling routes along the Voie des Vignes connect Beaune to Santenay — a 35 km flat ride through working vineyards.

Beaune's train station sits a 10-minute walk from the town centre, with direct TGV connections from Paris Gare de Lyon in approximately 2 hours. The town has a permanent population of around 22,000. Most hotels cluster inside or just outside the ramparts, within easy walking distance of the main market square, Place Carnot.
