About Calfosch - Kolfuschg - Colfosco

Calfosch - Kolfuschg - Colfosco

Colfosco (Ladin: Calfosch, German: Kolfuschg) sits at 1,645 m in the Alta Badia valley of South Tyrol, Italy, roughly 3 km from Corvara at the foot of the Sella group. The village is one of four Ladin-speaking communities encircling the Sella massif, giving it a cultural identity distinct from both German-speaking South Tyrol and Italian-speaking Trentino. Stone farmhouses and onion-domed chapels line the single main road, and the scale stays deliberately small — fewer than 500 permanent residents.

Most guests arrive for skiing. Colfosco sits directly on the Sella Ronda circuit, a 26 km ski route linking four valleys across the Dolomites via four mountain passes. The Boè gondola ascends to 2,550 m and connects to the 130-lift Dolomiti Superski network. In summer, the same slopes become waymarked hiking terrain; the Alta Via 2 long-distance trail passes through the area, and road cyclists use the nearby Passo Gardena (2,121 m) and Passo Campolongo climbs. Ladin gastronomy — schlutzkrapfen pasta, venison ragù, dark rye bread — features on most hotel menus alongside South Tyrolean wines.

The nearest commercial airport is Innsbruck (Austria), approximately 120 km north via the Brenner motorway. Bolzano Airport, 75 km south, handles limited scheduled routes. Most visitors drive or take ski-season bus transfers from Bolzano rail station.
