About Cervo
Cervo
Cervo sits on a rocky promontory above the Ligurian Riviera di Ponente, roughly 60 km southwest of Genoa and 60 km east of Nice. The village clusters around the Baroque church of San Giovanni Battista, built between 1686 and 1754 by local coral fishermen and positioned to face the sea. Caruggi — the narrow stone lanes — wind between pastel-painted houses that date to the 13th-century fortified nucleus. The Centro Storico is largely traffic-free, and the medieval castle now houses the ethnographic museum of the western Ligurian Riviera.
Visitors arrive primarily for the architecture, the annual International Chamber Music Festival held each July and August in the church square, and the short pebble beaches at the foot of the headland. The surrounding area — part of the Province of Imperia — offers olive groves, the nearby resort town of Diano Marina 3 km east, and direct rail access via Cervo-San Bartolomeo station on the Genoa–Ventimiglia coastal line.
Accommodation in Cervo itself is limited to small hotels, guesthouses, and agriturismi; larger selections sit in Diano Marina and Imperia 20 km west. The A10 motorway exit at Diano Marina connects drivers to the village in under 10 minutes.
