The town is compact — its medieval caruggi (narrow lanes) open onto one of the longest sandy beaches on this stretch of coast, framed by the 17th-century Baroque church of Sant'Agostino e San Giovanni, whose twin-towered façade is a landmark visible from the water. Visitors are mainly Italian and northern European families seeking a quieter alternative to nearby resort towns. The beach runs almost 1 km, sheltered by the headland of Capo Mele to the west.
