About Laigueglia
Laigueglia
Laigueglia sits on the Riviera di Ponente in Liguria, roughly 90 km south-west of Genoa and immediately west of Alassio. The town is compact — its medieval caruggi (narrow lanes) open onto one of the longest sandy beaches on this stretch of coast, framed by the 17th-century Baroque church of Sant'Agostino e San Giovanni, whose twin-towered façade is a landmark visible from the water. The old fishing quarter retains its terracotta rooftops and pastel plasterwork largely unchanged.
Visitors are mainly Italian and northern European families seeking a quieter alternative to nearby resort towns. The beach runs almost 1 km, sheltered by the headland of Capo Mele to the west. Cycling is popular along the connected coastal paths that link Laigueglia to Andora and Alassio. Restaurants along Via Roma serve Ligurian staples — trofie al pesto, fresh anchovies, focaccia di Recco — at prices reflecting the town's modest scale.
The nearest railway station is Laigueglia-Andora, about 2 km east along the coast road, with direct regional trains to Genoa (approx. 1 hr 30 min) and to the French border at Ventimiglia. Most hotels concentrate on the seafront lungomare or within a short walk of the beach.
