About Garlenda
Garlenda
Garlenda is a small village in the Ligurian hinterland, roughly 15 km northeast of Albenga and about 90 km from Nice. Set among olive groves and gentle hills at around 90 metres above sea level, it sits well back from the Riviera crowds yet remains an easy drive from sandy beaches at Alassio and Laigueglia. The village is best known for the Golf Club Garlenda, an 18-hole course established in 1965 and one of the oldest in Liguria — it draws golfers from across northern Italy and southern France throughout spring and autumn.
Visitors tend to arrive for one of three reasons: golf, cycling through the Arroscia valley, or a quiet rural base from which to explore the medieval hilltowns of Albenga's hinterland, including Zuccarello and Castelbianco. The pace is unhurried, restaurants lean on Ligurian staples — focaccia di Recco, rabbit with olives, local Pigato white wine — and accommodation ranges from agriturismo rooms to a handful of 4-star hotel properties attached to the golf club itself.
Garlenda has no rail station; the nearest train stop is Albenga on the Genoa–Ventimiglia line, about 15 minutes by car. The A10 motorway exit at Albenga provides straightforward road access from both Genoa and the French border.
