Diano Marina sits on the Riviera di Ponente in Liguria, 3 km east of Imperia and roughly 110 km southwest of Genoa. The town occupies a sheltered bay backed by terraced hillsides planted with Taggiasca olive trees, the variety behind Riviera Ligure DOP oil. A 5 km arc of sandy beach defines the seafront, and the modest historic grid of streets dates mostly from reconstruction after the 1887 earthquake that levelled much of the original town.

Most visitors arrive between May and September. The calm, shallow bay draws families and travellers looking for a low-key Riviera stay without the crowds of San Remo, 30 km to the west. Walkers use marked trails through the olive groves up to Diano Castello, the medieval hilltop village 2 km inland. Rail connections from Diano Marina station reach Genoa in about 90 minutes and Ventimiglia — the French border crossing — in around 45 minutes, making day trips straightforward.

Hotels here are mostly 3-star and 4-star seasonal properties open from April to October, concentrated along the Lungomare Nazario Sauro promenade. Several operate private beach concessions on the lido. A handful of smaller guesthouses and aparthotels serve visitors in the town centre, one block from the shore.
