About Colceresa

Colceresa

Colceresa is a small commune in the Province of Vicenza, formed in 2017 by the merger of Molvena and Mason Vicentino. It sits in the foothills south of the Asiago Plateau, roughly 8 kilometres from Marostica — a medieval walled town famous for its living chess match (Partita a Scacchi), staged every even-numbered year in the main piazza. The surrounding landscape is defined by cherry orchards, the Brenta river valley, and Breganze DOC vineyards producing Torcolato dessert wine.

Visitors come primarily for rural agritourism, cycling routes through the Vicenza hills, and easy day trips. Bassano del Grappa, with its covered Palladian bridge and grappa distilleries, is about 12 kilometres to the north. Vicenza city centre — a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its Palladian architecture — is roughly 25 kilometres southwest. Most accommodation in Colceresa consists of small family-run hotels, agriturismi, and B&Bs rather than large chains.

The commune is served by local buses connecting to Marostica and Bassano del Grappa, where rail links reach Vicenza and Padua. Summer and early autumn are the busiest periods, coinciding with cherry harvest festivals and the biennial chess event.
